Taking Care of Business – Stanford University Athletics – Stanford Athletics

SARASOTA, Fla. — The No. 2 Cardinal took care of business at the 2022 NCAA Championships Saturday, recording the top finish in each of its AB semifinals appearances to earn spots in all three Grand Final races Sunday. With the wins Saturday, Stanford became the only team remaining at the Division 1 NCAA Women’s Rowing Championships that has won all of its races in Sarasota.

Stanford started the morning off with a come-from-behind victory in the varsity eight race. Making a move after falling behind in the race’s first 1000 meters, the Cardinal came storming through both No. 5 Princeton and No. 6 Washington to secure the team’s first win of Saturday’s races.

The Cardinal’s second varsity eight team did not let a weather delay that pulled the boat off the start line to deter their goals, earning the race’s top finish with a time of 6:26.132 after leading for the final three-quarters of the 2000 meter competition. Stanford’s varsity four closed the already successful day with a win, recording the fastest time of all semifinals by more than a second.

Stanford now turns its attention to Sunday’s Grand Final races. Each race not only determines the boat’s individual national championship, but records the racing teams points towards the overall team NCAA title. The program with the highest point total at the end of the regatta brings home a NCAA title to their respective campus.
